DATING And How We Got Here (Part 2)

In the US, 1938 was the year child labor laws began. A generation of children were allowed to have a childhood for the first time in American history. Those children grew up and became interested in the opposite sex and the majority of that new generation who never worked in a factory did similar things that set a template to what western dating must be to be officially a date.

 A teenage boy, in 1950, didn't know the US census which reported men counted as smaller percent of the population as women outnumbered them by 1.43 million, the first time in US history. Even if those women were 45 and older, that teenage boy wouldn't have known the options he had. So, a teenage boy would ask a teenage girl out on a date, maybe on the telephone (an event the boy would plan and execute and host), and the teenage girl would accept or deny based on her high school standards at the time.

The boy would borrow the family car to help him host the event he planned with this object of his interest, and they would be part of a group at a sporting event or the movies. Later in life, the young man would make the date at a restaurant for dinner. If the object of the young man's interest had sex with him depended on many factors. But, those times created the date as we know in our heads.

With each decade the date mutated to fit the customs of the age and the ability to host a date. Sometimes the code words were rearranged such as car/dinner or car/movie/dinner car/dinner/movie. And then in the 60's and 70's sex played a starring role. Such as dinner/sex or car/sex/dinner or sex and maybe a call on the telephone.

In these modern times, with the introduction of the cellphone, the dating template changes according to times yet again, but the code words must be used for our minds to accept a "date" has happened. Yet, for men, the cellphone and dating sites are expectations to host, even if the only thing he wants is sex. For women, their expectations are of free food and fun, never thinking the host will ask them for anything...especially sex.

As of 2021, the male to female ratio is 98 males to 100 females. There was never a rule that stated the host must always be a male and the guest must always be female.
