*Warning: PIRATE RADIO is on the air*
You should have seen me, Speedy. I was in front of all those people and I was telling them they have nothing to fear from space aliens taking their jobs.
"People of Earth! I come to warn you of a parasite in our planet!"
What parasite is that?
"The COMPUTER!"
What?
"Yes, the ever since the computer has come to our planet, we've destroyed every business that gave us jobs and education. And we've replaced them all with a Authoritarian rule.
What?
"When is the last time you read an encyclopedia? When is the last time used a Kodak camera or a Polaroid camera? When is the last time you needed to buy a Timex watch? When is the last time you needed a TV repairman? When is the last time you went inside of a bank?"
What are you saying?
"The computer has made our lives so easy, we don't even notice when it's making our lives worse!"
But I like my computer.
"And how much do you spend for it? It's an expense that you could be using for other things. And now a big corporation has found a new way to get more of your money while it finds a new way to fire all the people it employed to talk to and help customers."
What if I just use it for watching porn?
"The Porn industry isn't making or producing as much porn anymore. Free internet porn is closing them down. The computer is taking away their jobs too."
Wow, I never thought about it like that.
Now, write it all down and let's put it where everybody is going to read it...on the computer.
There's an intense devotion to beauty at play in the work of Scarlett Saunders.
There's that voice, for a start, but then the arrangements, the subtle renderings of each song, seem to wring out fresh perspectives.
'I Should Know' is ineffably beautiful, but it also captures some rather darker, more poignant moments from the newcomer's life.
She explains the the song is about “the initial anger and confusion that my father was going out with someone who was exactly the same age as me and also 19 years old at the time.”
Julia Shoenstadt takes charge of the visuals, and there's a sweeping, haunting feel at play.
Absorbing, engrossing, and - you guessed it - very beautiful, you can tune in below.
